Further new discoveries of material from The Biggin excavations!

In talking with Gil Burleigh this morning, I have discovered that the North Hertfordshire Archaeological Society holds an archive of notes by Miss Kit Westaway, who worked on the excavation of the site in 1968-9. They include a handwritten report dated 24 July 1969, which is after the excavation had ended and after Christopher Beresford-Webb had written the summary he included in his dissertation, so it is potentially the most complete description of the excavation ever written.
There are also several sets of photographs, one of which was taken by Mary Gadd, assistant curator of Hitchin Museum in February 1968. What is most exciting about this is that we now have independent documentation of what was discovered and an account that was written some five months after Christopher Beresford-Webb’s. Once I’ve has a chance to go through this mass of documents, I’ll post more details about their contents here.
